Classification and Application of Ultrasonic Technology

The frequency of sound waves perceived by human ear ranges from 16Hz to 20 kHz. The sound waves below 16 Hz are called infrasound waves, while the sound waves above 20 kHz are called ultrasonic waves. Ultrasonic technology refers to the whole physical process of producing ultrasonic, transmitting ultrasonic and receiving ultrasonic to achieve the purpose of processing or detection. The application of ultrasonic technology in industry began in the 10s and 20s of the 20th century. With the maturity of ultrasonic technology, its application has become more and more extensive. Measured by the power of ultrasound, ultrasound technology can be divided into two categories: detecting ultrasound and power ultrasound.

1. Detecting Ultrasound

Detecting ultrasound is also known as the "passive application" of ultrasound. It uses ultrasound as a detection tool, which is loaded with fluctuation information. When working, ultrasound is injected into the medium as an incident wave, and then receives its echo or transmitted wave, and receives it through analysis. The change of information such as the phase, frequency, and amplitude of the wave can derive a certain characteristic of the medium itself. In practical applications, small amplitude sound waves should be selected to detect ultrasound, which can reduce the damage of ultrasound to the medium. Ultrasonic detection is often used in automotive ultrasonic distance measurement, positioning, industrial flaw detection and thickness measurement, geological drilling, etc. B-ultrasound detection when people go to a hospital is also a kind of detection ultrasound.

2.  Power ultrasound

Power ultrasound is also known as the "active application" of ultrasound, which is to apply ultrasound as a form of energy to the medium itself to directly act, influence or change the medium. When working, it is necessary to analyze and compare the changed sound waves, without receiving the sound waves acting on the medium, and often choose high-power sound waves.

Power ultrasound mainly studies how to generate high-intensity, high-power ultrasound, and then use ultrasound energy to change objects and physical properties. Power ultrasound is mainly used in ultrasonic cleaning and ultrasonic processing, among which ultrasonic cleaning is one of the most important applications of power ultrasound.
